Qualification Description

This qualification provides a trade outcome in wall and floor tiling for residential and commercial construction work. The qualification has core unit of competency requirements that cover common skills for the construction industry, as well as the specialist field of work, wall and floor tiling.

Tilers work with materials like ceramic, glass, slate, marble and clay. They cut these materials and lay tiles on walls and floors, both interior and exterior. They may also add decorative touches to their basic work.

What Will I Learn?

You will learn to prepare surfaces, apply waterproofing, cut tiles, and use tools. Installing tiles on walls and floors, including mosaics, decorative, and stone tiling. Preparing substrates, creating waterproof membranes for wet areas, and applying specialized adhesives. Proficient use of manual and electric tile cutters, measuring tools, and grinders to cut and shape tiles accurately.

Surface Preparation

Prepare substrates and create waterproof membranes for wet areas before tile installation.

Tile Installation

Install tiles on walls and floors including mosaics, decorative, stone tiling, and curved surfaces.

Tile Cutting & Measurement

Use manual and electric tile cutters, measuring tools, and grinders to shape tiles accurately.

Waterproofing & Adhesives

Apply waterproofing systems and specialized adhesives for wet and dry area applications.

Reading Construction Plans

Interpret building plans and work specifications used in residential and commercial projects.

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites or specific entry requirements for this qualification. This course is available to all international students. Oscar Institute requires that students are able to provide evidence that they:

Have demonstrated an IELTS level at a score of at least 6.0 or equivalent (test results must be no more than 2 years old), or demonstration of successful completion of at least General English at Upper Intermediate or English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level.

Have a suitable level of language, literacy and numeracy to complete course requirements with or without additional support that Oscar Institute is able to provide. Must be a proficient user of advanced calculators.

Have successfully completed Australian Year 12 or equivalent, or must be of mature age with adequate LLN skills.

Are at least 18 years of age on the date of course commencement.
