Assessment Methodology

Assessment methods are varied and provide multiple ways for individuals to demonstrate required outcomes. Your trainer and assessor will outline specific assessment tasks at the beginning of each unit.

Participants who achieve competency in any unit/s will receive a Statement of Attainment (provided USI is verified) without completing all 8 units.

Entry Requirements

There are no pre-requisites or specific entry requirements for this qualification. This course is available to all international students. Oscar Institute requires students to provide evidence of the following:

IELTS overall score of at least 6.0, or equivalent (results must be no more than 2 years old), or successful completion of General English at Upper Intermediate or English for Academic Purposes Upper Intermediate level.

A suitable level of language, literacy, numeracy and digital (LLND) to complete course requirements with or without additional support that Oscar Institute is able to provide. Must be a proficient user of advanced calculators.

Successful completion of Australian Year 12 or equivalent, or be of mature age with adequate LLND skills.

Must be at least 18 years of age on the date of course commencement.

Have completed a qualification equivalent to Australian Advanced Diploma level (AQF Level 6) or higher
Prior to the finalisation of enrolment, all prospective students are required to complete a Language, Literacy, Numeracy and Digital (LLND) assessment. This assessment assists OSCAR Institute in determining the student's suitability for the course and identifying any additional support requirements during their study.

Student Visa Information

This course is registered on CRICOS and is eligible for the Student Visa (Subclass 500). International students must hold a valid student visa to study in Australia. Students must also comply with visa conditions relating to attendance and course progress as monitored by Oscar Institute in accordance with the National Code 2018.

Orientation

New student orientation will be done face to face. New students will receive an e-mail and call from the Admissions department a week prior to their date of commencement with all necessary further information and instructions. Support

All staff at Oscar Institute will continue to work and provide students with the support any individual may need. The student will remain connected with each trainer/assessor through regular class participation to assist them in continuing their studies. Oscar Institute will also provide academic and language support, and student support staff are always here to help.

Course Progress Policy

Oscar Institute monitors, records and assesses the course progress of each student for the course in which the student is enrolled. The Course Progress Policy defines the requirements for satisfactory course progress, the processes for monitoring, recording and assessing student course progress, and the intervention strategies for identifying and assisting students to achieve satisfactory course progress. The procedure sets out the processes for reporting unsatisfactory course progress on PRISMS according to ESOS Act Section 19.

Oscar Institute assesses a student's progress at the end of each compulsory Term. The Term is 11 weeks long for all qualifications on the CRICOS scope. While every attempt is made to keep consistency in term weeks, the number of weeks in a defined term may also factor in the duration and completion of units of competency, which enables Oscar Institute to determine student participation and course progress in any given successfully completed term. One Term is considered the minimum length of time in which it is reasonable for the Administration Manager to make an assessment of a student's course progress.

Satisfactory Progress

Satisfactory course progress is achieved where a student successfully completes at least 50% of course requirements in a successfully completed Term.

Unsatisfactory Progress

Unsatisfactory progress is defined as not successfully completing or demonstrating competency in more than 50% of the course requirements in a successfully completed Term.

Course Breach

A course breach is defined as not successfully completing or demonstrating competency in more than 50% of course requirements in TWO consecutive successfully completed Terms, or not responding to an intervention meeting invitation within 10 working days of receiving the invitation.

Oscar Institute will also monitor overseas student attendance (but would not report unless otherwise required) in the process of course progress monitoring and reporting. However, overseas students must meet their visa obligations regarding attendance, wherever applicable.
